A warm welcome

As well as numerous senior players with countless decades of experience, the club are fortunate to have the services of quality coaching staff this season so we hope to be much better prepared than we were last year.

All we have to do is commit to attending training sessions, follow the guidance of the coaching staff and develop the game plans that will be necessary to take us forward and then, after that first step has been taken, we can begin our plans for achieving future success. First of all, we need to develop an awareness of how each other play and learn to PLAY AS A TEAM. That's not to say that the expression of natural talent shouldn't be encouraged. Once the pre-season gets underway the training sessions should be scheduled as below:

  • Tuesday  7.00-8.30pm
  • Saturday (watch this space).

Following each session, a gentle warm down session will take place to ensure that any injuries or niggles are monitored and kept to an absolute minimum. The fitness and welfare of all players is very important to the club.

For those of you wanting to develop your rugby brain and body, here are some very useful links to relevant websites. Your starter for ten is:

Fitness Training - follow this link -

Strength Training - follow this linkStrength

For all other aspects of rugby training - Technical

Once the fitness is sorted out we can move onto some serious game winning training techniques. I'm sure the old heads in the club will be helping out when they can but, in the meantime, why not follow this link to another website that offers training tips that can be included within games. One such site is Rugby 365 - an all round rugby site that is well worth a look at.

A great site for us all to have a look at is Rugby Tactics which includes lots of animated rugby plays and moves. Everyone who looks at this site should try and learn a simple move and bring it along to a training session and the squad will try it out. Currently our moves are fairly limited but a little work here and there will reap dividends.
